How to Easily Clean Your Microwave

by Katie on January 12, 2011

I recently discovered an awesome way to clean the microwave. Not only does it make it super easy to clean, but it gives it a nice fresh scent!

Instead of scrubbing and scrubbing you will have this nasty task done in a matter of a minute or two!

All you need to do is get out a microwave safe bowl and fill it with water (not completely to the top). Add some lemon juice or vanilla extract and microwave it for 10 minutes. When the timer goes off let it sit for a few minutes and then remove the water. Take a lightly dampened towel and wipe everything down. The moisture from the water loosens any debris and it just wipes right off.

Do you have any microwave tips?

I do the same thing only with dish soap. It's amazing. I've never scrubbed a microwave the hard way. There's just no reason for it!

Now off to clean the microwave!

I just cleaned my microwave using your tip and it worked BEAUTIFULLY! I can't believe I have scrubbed and scrubbed for so long… I love that it used just water and lemon juice, you can't get any more "natural" than that.

Thanks again!

Katie January 17, 2011 at 11:24 am

Cherie, Yes…go for the scent! I have always been kind of freaked out about microwaves, but the lemon just makes sure it doesn't get all different odors mixed together…yuck!

@ Living So Abundantly, thanks for stopping by!! Let me know how it turns out!

@ Misty, Yay!! Thanks for coming back and telling me how it went…I love how you do that! Yes, I love that it isn't natural you aren't putting chemicals in the thing that warms your food!

I just tried this trick, but this time I used orange peels instead of lemon juice. It smelled great! When I was done, I put the water & orange peels through the disposal, which freshened that up, too.

Thanks for the tip!!
