Homemade baked tortilla strips are the perfect accompaniment to soups and salads! I just love the little bit of crunch that they add!
After making them at home I wondered why I wasted my money on the itty bitty packages of them for so long…they are so easy and inexpensive to make.
Ingredients
- Tortillas
- Olive Oil
- Salt
- Spices (I used garlic powder, chile powder, and cumin)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Stack 2-3 tortillas on top of each other. Cut in quarters with a pizza cutter. Then cut into strips. Toss strips with olive oil (just enough to lightly coat). Lay out on a baking sheet and sprinkle with salt and assorted spices.
- Bake 8-11 minutes or until crisp.

I love this idea! I’m going to have to whip up a batch to use on salads. I love the crunch they add to salad and soups. You are so smart!!!
What is it about that crunch on a salad…makes it so much better
I’m with you on the crunch making a salad so much better!! Not sure what it is but so agree!!
Glad you’re with me, Kimi
My mom used to make these… but somehow I forgot all about them! Next time I whip up your Chicken Chili, these will definitely be there… You are so clever. God has truly blessed us with your ministry.
Oh, I can’t wait for the recipe…
Oh, yeah…they would really be good on Chicken Chili!! Do I have to wait until fall to make that? It sounds so good right now!
Why wait until fall? Make some up today!
Chili in July…why not
That is a great idea! I actually have a stack of tortillas that have been hanging out in our pantry. Hmmm…I think I might “have” to make these now!

They are great for those last leftover tortillas that don’t get eaten
These showed up on a Friday Favorites Find post this week — and I’m so glad they did. These look amazing and fun.
Do you use corn or flour tortillas? Looks yummy and much healthier than the greasy store varieties!
McKala, they are so much healthier than store bought (not to mention WAY cheaper). I have always used flour in the past to make them, but you could definitely use corn if you prefer!
