My Favorite Christmas Cookies

by Katie on December 12, 2011

I have combined my top 8 Christmas cookies into one post! These are the cookies I CAN’T live without. The ones that HAVE to be made. My absolute FAVORITE Christmas cookies!!

I know everyone does homemade Christmas cookies at Christmas, but it still makes a great gift…especially if you make good cookies! I promise if you give away some candy cane or chocolate cherry cookies, your recipients will love you forever. I know I would. :)

1. Candy Cane Cookies

These candy cane cookies are by far my favorite!  I’ve been eating my Aunt Becky’s Candy Cane cookies for as far back as I can remember!  If you are only going to make one cookie this year…PLEASE make these the one.  They are a light and fluffy sugar cookie with a hint of peppermint. They are topped with a wonderful peppermintey glaze. I always make a lot of these ahead of time and freeze them.  Don’t tell, but I’m stingy with them and make sure that I keep a bag for myself in the freezer to enjoy in January!!

2. Chocolate Cherry Cookies

These cookies are so decadent and delicious.  It all starts with a great little chocolate cookie, then you add a cherry, and a nice dollop of a homemade chocolate fudgey topping.  My aunt Cherie makes these every Christmas and my sister and I have been hooked on them every Christmas.  They freeze great!

3. Sugar Cookies

If you are looking for a nice cut out sugar cookie that holds it shape…these are for you!  I use this dough when I am making decorated cookies with intricate cookie cutters because they barely spread at all.   If you are looking for a great soft sugar cookie that you don’t have to roll out, soft sugar cookies are another great option.

4. Mexican Wedding Cookies

I think each family has a different name for these delicious little white cookies!  They are so easy to make, and delicious, too.  They freeze wonderfully…just throw in a freezer bag and freeze.  Pull them out to thaw and roll in some more powdered sugar!

5. Pecan Tarts

If you like pecan pie, these are the cookie for you!  It’s like a piece of pecan pie in a bite.  Maybe better because you get the perfect amount of crust and filling in each bite!  These freeze great!!

6. Kiss Cookies

Doesn’t everyone make these cookies for Christmas?  They are crazy popular, and for good reason!  I love them!!

7. Gingerbread Men

I think gingerbread men are so cute, but I just don’t like the gingerbread taste!  But it’s a Christmas staple…so sometimes I make them anyways!

8. Dipped Pretzel Rods

I know, I know…these aren’t a cookie!  But they are so good and great for gift giving!  I don’t have a real recipe for them.  I just dip pretzel rods in caramels and then in chocolate.  Or sometimes I just dip them in chocolate.  You can get creative and do whatever you like!

Those are my favorite Christmas cookies….what are your favorite cookies?

The Mexican Wedding ones are what my mom always called Butter Nut Snowballs and they bring me back to childhood. I try and make those every year. :) Tim’s mom has a recipe for sugar cookies that he and the kids LOVE that take forever… but, I must admit, are worth it. Ry and I will definitely be adding some of these to our “to do list” too. :)

Ry and I made the candy cane cookies today and they were so cute and fun to make. It was almost like playing with playdoh rolling them out and shaping them… Only you get something yummy to eat at the end of play time. :) These are on our yearly “Christmas Baking List”. Thank you for sharing.
