Double Chocolate M&M Cookies

This delicious cookie recipe, from Mel’s Kitchen Cafe, has been on my to make list for quite some time. What held me back was the fact that my husband isn’t really a chocolate cookie fan (I know-what’s wrong with him?).

After contemplating what type of cookie to bring alongside my requested monster cookies to a Super Bowl party-I decided it was my chance to finally make them.  I’m so glad I did, they turned out so awesomely good. A lot of chocolate cookies I’ve had in the past had more of a cocoa taste rather than a real chocolate flavor (bleh!). With melted chocolate mixed right in the batter, these come out so chocolatey and delicious. Add in the M&M’s and they couldn’t possibly get much better!

Oh, and my dear husband informed me that I made a chocolate cookie lover out of him!

Double Chocolate M&M Cookies

Yield: 2-3 dozen-depending on size

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 4 ounces semi-sweet or milk chocolate, coarsely chopped
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, cut into 8 pieces
  • 3/4 cup M&M's
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
  2. In a medium bowl stir together flour, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder. Set aside.
  3. In a microwave safe bowl combine butter and chopped chocolate. Microwave at 50% power for one minute. Stir and microwave for another minutes at 50% power. If the chocolate isn't fully melted, continue microwaving at 50% power for 30 second intervals. Let the mixture cool for 2-3 minutes until it is room temperature or just slightly warm.
  4. In a large bowl (or bowl of a stand mixer) combine melted chocolate mixture, sugar, eggs, and vanilla. Mix until combined. Gradually mix in flour mixture on low speed. Fold in M&M's by hand (the mixed will break up the M&M's).
  5. Lightly grease baking sheets. Drop dough onto cookie sheets by tablespoonfuls-spacing them about 1 1/2 inches apart. If desired, place 5 or 6 M&M's on top of each cookie ball. Bake the cookies until they have flattened slightly and there are a few cracks on top, about 13-14 minutes (they will still be soft). Let sit on cookie sheet for 2-3 minutes before moving them to a wire rack.

Way to go on converting your husband to chocolate cookies! I feel like our mission is complete if that’s all we have to do in life, right? Glad the cookies turned out so well (love the festive M&Ms).

Found this recipe for M&M cookies through a quick Google search. I was missing a couple of ingredients for my usual quick cookies, and this fudgy version fit the bill perfectly. The guys should love them. Thanks for sharing.

I may just switch it up and make these for Valentine’s Day for the family instead of chocolate chip cookies. I will let you know how they like them. :)
