Handmade Recipe Book

by Katie on May 1, 2012

I’m so excited to show you my new favorite bridal shower gift…a handmade recipe book! These handmade recipe books are easy to make and are GREAT for bridal shower gifts!

Last year, Daniel’s cousin was getting married and she asked if I would make her a recipe book.  My sister was also getting married so I thought it was the perfect time to come up with something really cool for these new brides!

I searched everywhere and couldn’t find a recipe book that I liked or any great handmade ideas. SO…I had to rely on my own creativity and I came up with something I thought was really neat…and original.

This recipe book was for my future sister in law. I incorporated her wedding colors and future last initial!

I have a recipe card stamp set, so I make my own recipe cards to coordinate with each book. The set I use is from Stampin’ Up, and they no longer make it, but I purchased mine on Ebay last year – so I’m sure you could find one if you want one.  :)

Now, I hand write mine, but you could easily print yours out and it would probably save a ton of time! Just a matter of preference.

When the recipe book was all finished I wrapped it up with some tulle. I found a great Le Creuset pink glitter spatula so I wrapped it up, too! It was such a great find I had to pick up one for myself, too. ;)

I filled up the book with my recipes, BUT if you are hosting a shower you can mail a few out with each invitation and have the guests bring them to the shower. Then you can put them right into the album and it won’t take you much time at all. That is what I did for my sister’s shower and the recipe book turned out really nice!

Want to make a recipe book of your own?

Here is what you will need:
Photo album (which holds 4×6 photos)
Ribbon
Fabric Glue
Scrapbook Paper for Center Opening and Tabs (if applicable)
Embellishment for Center Opening (I purchased my letter “P” at Hobby Lobby. I’ve used fabric flowers instead or you could even print out “Recipes” or something like that)
Recipe Cards

How to make your own:
Measure the ribbon to the length needed to wrap around the cover and meet in the back. Brush fabric glue on the portion of the ribbon that would be on the top inside of the cover. Let dry. Pull ribbon around the front of the cover and back around to the inside. Place more fabric glue on the portion of the ribbon that will be on the inside bottom of the cover. Let dry and repeat on the back cover.

Cut scrapbook paper to fit in the front window. Attach embellishment and put back in the window.

Fill up with recipe cards.

For tabbed dividers: cut pieces of scrapbook paper to the length of the book plus an inch or two. Stamp, print or write out the different sections of recipes. Cut the clear photo protection sleeve off of each page where you plan to put the dividers. Glue the dividers in place.

Did you receive recipes from anyone when you got married!

Each guest brought a recipe to one of my showers, and they helped me so much as a new bride who knew nothing about cooking!
