How to Bake the Perfect Baked Potato

by Katie on May 30, 2012

Lately I’ve been quite obsessed with big old stuffed spuds. I stuff them with veggies, meat, cheese…you name it…I will try it.

This obsession has given me much time to perfect the art of baking a potato.   While I haven’t met too many baked potatoes that I won’t eat, there have definitely been some that stand above the rest.

After some trial and error I think I’ve found the perfect way to bake them! They come out each time with a soft, fluffy inside and a perfectly crispy, salty skin.

How to Bake the Perfect Baked Potato

  • Large Potatoes
  • Olive Oil or Cooking Spray
  • Kosher Salt

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  2. Rinse and scrub the potatoes under cold running water. Once clean, dry well with paper towel and pierce with a fork on each side a few times.
  3. Rub each potato with olive oil or spray with cooking spray. Sprinkle heavily with kosher salt.
  4. Bake right on oven rack for 40-60 minutes - flipping half way through.
  5. If you want to stuff your spud: Remove from oven and slice open. Fluff with a fork and add in your toppings. Place on a baking sheet and bake at 350 until your toppings are warmed through and cheese is melted (if using).

Ah, who doesn’t love a perfectly baked potato?! This reminds me…When I was in middle school, they used to served baked potatoes in the lunch line, and my friend and I literally had a science to preparing our baked potato! We used to do it everyday, the same exact way. We swore by it!

Thanks for sharing this! It looks great! I can’t wait to try! :]

My YummySoup! app is just FILLING up with recipes from you that I have to try! I will post back with my success stories!

Thanks Katie!

I love restaurants that have salt on the outside of their potatoes so I will have to try your way of baking potatoes soon!
