Did you happen to hear what Martha Stewart had to say about bloggers this week? You can listen to it here if you want to. Let’s just say she doesn’t think to highly of us bloggers. Here is a little snippet of her quote.
“Who are these bloggers? They’re not trained editors at Vogue magazine. I mean there are bloggers writing recipes that aren’t tested, that aren’t necessarily very good, or are copies of everything that really good editors have created and done. So bloggers create a kind of popularity, but they are not the experts. We have to understand that.”
Let me just clarify…
I am not (nor do I think I have ever claimed to be) an “expert” and obviously I’m not a “trained editor at Vogue”. And honestly I don’t need or desire to be known as an “expert”.
What makes one an “expert” anyways?
My posts and recipes are made by me in my home, tested by me and my family and friends, photographed by me, and post material is written by me. It’s a one woman show. The only test kitchen my recipes have gone through is my own home kitchen. I think you all knew that though.
So why would a lowly, non-expert have a blog?
I blog because I enjoy cooking and saving money and helping others do the same! I love the friendships I have made through blogging. I love the sweet, encouraging emails and comments I get from readers.
I didn’t have much respect for old Martha anyways – so I don’t give her words much credit. She comes across as condescending, rude, and arrogant – especially for someone who had to serve some time – and arrogance is a trait that really annoys me. It’s really a turn off, isn’t it?
I think Martha forgets where she started at…since she started her business in her own home you would think she would encourage bloggers and support them.
SO…upon hearing about this I knew exactly what post I would highlight for Flashback Friday. It was a two recipe post. First is Parmesan Garlic Chicken – it is delicious! I’m not a master chef or anything, but we have always enjoyed this tasty freezer meal!
I also shared a Martha Stewart recipe.
That only our dog would eat. Yup. Those veggies were pretty bad.
Again, I’m not an expert like her, but when only a dog will eat it…well, maybe the expert editors need to take that one back to the drawing board!?!
