Slow Cooker Root Beer Pulled Pork Sandwiches

Thanks to the slow cooker I put a fabulous meal of Root Beer Pulled Pork Sandwiches on the table.  Where would I be without my trusty sidekick?

I’ve had my slow cooker for many years. My Mamaw got it for me…it was like THE wedding gift I had to have. I was not looking forward to cooking dinner every night so I just knew I had to have one to help ease the load. I love cooking now, but back then…not so much.

My main slow cooker has been through the wringer and I’ve got my eye on something like this beauty when mine totally tanks.

I seriously use my slow cooker at least once a week for something – which is why I’m making plans for the future when mine kicks the bucket. If yours is covered in dust, this is the perfect excuse to dust that baby off and put it to work.  Rekindle the love.

Root Beef Pulled Pork Sandwiches are a family pleaser! My mom made a similar recipe with chicken and it was so good that I tried something similar with a pork loin I had purchased and after dinner I froze the extras so I have more easy dinners already for us!

It sounds a little weird, right?  Root Beer and pork?  But I promise it’s just a really good barbecue pork – it doesn’t taste like root beer. It’s full of flavor and juicy…and makes dinner a breeze.

Slow Cooker Root Beer Pulled Pork Sandwiches


  • 2 pounds pork loin roast
  • 12 ounce can of root beer
  • 18 ounce bottle of barbecue sauce (I use Sweet Baby Rays)


  1. Place the pork roast in the slow cooker. Pour the root beer over the pork. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or until it shreds easily. Remove the meat and shred with two forks.
  2. Drain the liquid from the slow cooker. Add the meat back to the slow cooker and add the barbecue sauce. Let it heat for about 30 minutes. Serve on hamburger buns.

Gosh…it’s 7 a.m. and I haven’t even had breakfast yet….but now my mouth is watering for some yummy pulled pork!!!

Gotta grab some rootbeer next time I am at the store and give this a try!!!!!

Hi Cherie!! I hear ya!! Also, I’m pretty sure you could use a cola, too. I think Mom’s was a can of Coke. It’s so easy and yummy!

I am totally going to try this… One of my Aunt’s makes something with Dr. Pepper, so I am sure it is similar. I have a pork roast in my freezer ready to go. :) YUM!! Maybe next week…
